Jazz festival

Oh, man, parts of it were just great today. The first performance we saw today was okay, but the next one was way better. Our school Junior group went up, (with me in it) and it went really well. I screwed up on a note or two, but I think I was in harmony, so it didn't matter much. I learned that I need to pay more attention to dynamics.

After lunch there was a lecture about arranging for big band, which was interesting for me.

The coolest thing ever was after, though. Two combo groups went on. For those wondering, a combo group is just a really small group (a rhythm section and a few instruments, like a trumpet and sax) and they play stuff. It was amazing. There's just something about just one person being featured for most of the song that makes it absolutely awesome. The smaller group also makes things a bit easier to organise because there's less people. The second group also had the coolest scat solos, one of the only times I prefer vocals over instrument.

Anyway, the thing I realized is that we should form our own combo groups. I'd do it for sure. That would be really awesome.

Then the seniors played, and we did well, but not as well as the juniors. I must say, with my switch into fingerpicking lately in jazz band, you get a much different sound that comes out of the amp. It also helped that the amp had the right settings on it. It sounded way more like a jazz guitar.

Anyway, I want to start a combo group now.
