Okay, this weekend was interesting, as far as things went. I got home late Friday, spent my early Saturday hanging out with friends an a karaoke machine (no, no one's hearing was severely damaged. :P) and after, I backed up my hard drive and reformatted my computer. Nothing notable, except it took way too long (I started just after 4 and it wasn't ready to go until midnight, after software updates), and my computer seems to be working okay now. But the really interesting thing happened after I got off the ferry.
I should mention that my sense of direction isn't the best in the world and I can't follow partial directions very well (eg, a bus schedule from memory). Last Tuesday Sunago had their BBQ and using only memories of directions to a park, I got lost three times (walked the wrong way down a street for about 15 minutes once, among things) and ended up an hour late.
I'll break it down. First thing I did when I got to Tsawassen was check in my small suitcase. Mistake number one. After landing in Schwartz Bay, the time it took to get my luggage made me miss the direct bus to UVic because the bus was full. Not a problem, bus number 70 goes downtown and I can take a bus back from there. I took the bus and got off at Royal Oak Exchange, knowing that's where I changed buses to go to the ferry terminal on Friday. Mistake number two. Turns out the next bus that heads straight to UVic (76) doesn't come until after nine, and it was about 7:20 when I got off the bus. The next bus that heads downtown (70) doesn't come for an hour. Luckily, the number 6 bus comes in ten minutes and I get on, misreading the map a bit. Mistake number three, kinda. Turns out the bus doesn't go where I thought it did, but after asking the driver, there was still a place where I could get off and exchange to a bus that goes straight to the school (the 14). I got off downtown somewhere (near a Chapters) and took that bus here. Last time when I took the direct bus I got back at about 7:40. I got back at 9 tonight.
Despite what happened, it was actually kinda fun. I kept a positive attitude throughout the whole thing and I eventually got to my destination. This usually isn't like me (don't make me read books about diseases I may actually have, but don't), but I stayed happy and kept a smile throughout the whole thing. Even now (and while I was doing it), I'm already laughing about it. Even though I got lost, it was great. This weekend I might go out and explore that area in more detail. If it weren't so late and I didn't have heavy luggage, I might have walked around.
