The past two days have been really good. Friday night was awesome because the computer science faculty was having a retro games night. There was a Wii, an NES and two SNES's (one with a Super Famicom adapter so it could play Japanese games). One of the cool things about it is that since it was mostly computer science kids that went, it's like having a huge nerd meeting, something that I wholeheartedly embrace. It's really funny hearing people talk about in person what you don't expect other people to know about that you find on the Internet, like character tiers in Super Smash Bros and Abused Rib of Tetris Attack fame. If you didn't get any of that, don't worry, I wouldn't expect it. And you can't say nerdfest without 16-player network Tron (with a spectator screen going on the projectors). I had never played before, but it was really fun and I should get into it more. That night was one of the best nights in my life because this was the first time all year ever since arriving at UVic where I could just be a complete nerd and feel completely comfortable about it. It gave me a chance to expose a side of me that has been hiding out for a long time, and it felt great.
Anyway, I got a whole two and a half hours of sleep that night (woke up at quarter to 4) and then woke up again to hit the mountain. Other than being really tired (an energy drink and a coke kept me from falling asleep on the mountain), it was still a really great time. I did a bunch of stuff that I haven't done before on the mountain. I took some blue runs (some of them in large amounts of powder on fairly steep slopes, which is pretty hard and fairly daunting, but more fun once you get into it, learn how to turn more sharply and not be too scared to go fast) and even attempted to go off a jump. Not a very big one, there's a nice beginner park on the mountain and I tried to make a jump. Well, I did and I flew pretty well off a small one. Unfortunately, landing was a different story because I went off too fast and panicked, so my landing could have been a lot better. But it was still great. I had a lot of fun and I got to try some new stuff, so in the end, it was a great day.
I got back at about 8:30 last night, went to bed fairly quickly, but the St. Patrick's day "festivities" woke me up at around 11:30 and I couldn't get back to sleep till 1:30, so I'm still kinda tired right now. But I still have homework to so, and that's more important right now. All in all, it was a really fun, but tiring weekend and now I've got to get back to doing normal work now.
